Thoughts on a Wednesday

While everyone and their dog have been obsessed with that unicorn-robot-rainbow-whatever game I have not been. Now here is a great game (you'll have to click the 'peg jumping' sign at the bottom). It's called "Lena's Peg Jumping Game." Its from Fablehaven a.k.a. Mechale's fantasy love. Everyone and their dog should stop playing that pink and purple game and play this one. It gets HARD!! Its a very simple game but it is so addicting and difficult. I could play it all day- oh wait, I do... hmm. Also, everyone and their dog AND cats should read the Fablehaven series. Seriously, so good. I'm a Harry Potter NUT and it ranks up there.. possibly higher than trusty old HP. READ IT!

Today in sewing (I know, I know, but its so fun!) we watched our teacher, the wonderful Mrs. Lewis, pin and cut out her pattern while she just talked to Jane, Mary, Megan and me and gave us interview tips ha ha! It was the best day ever ever. "Mrs. Lewis is such a great friend."

I realize how random this is but I'm constantly reminded of how incredible Death Cab for Cutie is. This song just came on my pandora and still, after years, I find it beautiful. "If heaven and hell decide that they both are satisfied, they'll illuminate the 'No's' on their vacancy signs. If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks, then I'll Follow You Into the Dark" - Thank you Death Cab for Cutie. I could analyze your lyrics all day.

As Valentine's Day was just a couple days ago here are my two favorite Love quotes.

"A girl likes to be crossed in love now and again. It gives her something to think of." -Mr. Bennet, Pride and Prejudice (Kiera Knightly version). Well said Mr Bennet, well said.

"Love is watching someone die." -Death Cab for Cutie, What Sarah Said. I love that. The music at that point in the song makes it so much more profound. Just go listen to it. The whole song makes me want to cry. This music video I found for it is awful in a good way. I'll admit it- I got teary eyed. It was tragic, but not what I expected.

Anyway, I have my Girl's State interview tomorrow so I should go write my speech. It's going to be so hard! I only have two minutes! I can't say everything I want to in two minutes! I'm used to giving 7-10 minute speeches and sometimes that isn't enough! Keep it consise Mechale, short and sweet.

second chance

I hate Lady Antebellum. When that "I need you now" song comes on I immediately change it. I can't stand the song!!! I reallllyyyy don't like Lady Antebellum. But today as I was watching Ellen, Lady Antebellum came on. Rather than just change the channel I decided to give them a chance and this is what I saw.

Want to know something crazy? I actually liked it! I've heard a lot more than just one of their songs, but until I heard them live I hated it. I guess this is good. Everyone deserves a second chance. Even Lady Antebellum.

Okay in other music news- Adele's new album "21" is to die for! listen to this song-

Beautiful. I can't get over it. Such raw emotion.

Also, its Valentines Day so Happy Valentines day!

I went to the Sweethearts Dance on Saturday and it was SO much fun! I'll post pictures and everything later.

Well I better go learn Set Fire to the Rain on the piano now so have a great day!

Christmas Wish

I just remembered what I wanted for Christmas. Dang. I hate when this happens! There was one thing that I actually wanted this year and I couldn't think of it until now. This-

Or one like it. I really wanted it:( oh well.. good thing my birthday's in what like 5 months? I'll be waiting a while for that wax stamp.

In other news, I don't like being sick. My brain is a fog. I have no idea what I did on my math test. It's all a blur.

Today in Seminary we talked about people who have done the "greatest good" or spreading the gospel and bringing others closer to Christ. We shared different people who have been that influence in our lives. I said my 4 older siblings. Erin has set such an incredible example to me of how I want my life to end up. She has a temple marriage, married a guy perfect for her, has a cute son and keeps her covenants. My brother Jordan served a faithful mission and has helped my testimony grow. My brother Chris is in the Washington Seattle mission and is doing awesome. It was a struggle for him to get out despite his desire to serve and now that he is out there, it is such a blessing in my life. Johnny is such a good example to me of how to live your standards in the chaos of high school. I love that kid. Last night we were texting for ever one room apart haha and then eventually I went in his room and laid on the other bed while we both just talked and texted(not each other this time haha). He's a good kid.

As we were sharing the people that have done the "greatest good" in our lives Brother Beynon told me that in one of his other classes someone mentioned me as the person who has influenced their life. What?! Honestly, it made my day. I don't know who it was, but the fact that someone said that made me feel good. It was just another testament to me that people do watch our every action. Often I exempt myself from those watched, but now I realize that it isn't so. I probably should watch what I do more carefully! At least one good thing happened today:)

University of Utah

I want to go to the University of Utah.

There, I said it. Now bring on the criticism from my family(minus my red-to-the-core grandpa). Its not because I want to be different. Its not because I'm a rebel and don't want the safety and conservatism of BYU. Its because I feel like I can get a great education at the U. As far as Engineering goes, the U has a much larger, more funded program. I know that I wouldn't have to pay a cent to go there. Plus, I already have a lot of connections in Engineering with the U.

But I'm not going to lie, it scares me. Probably because of all the stereotypes about the U that I've been subject to my whole life. But its not a bad school by any means. Its a GREAT school.

Its entirely possible I'll change my mind, I haven't even taken the ACT yet! But if I had to choose right now, I'd go to the U. When I seriously think about going to the Y, I can't see myself there. I'm sure I'd have a great experience and really enjoy it, but when I envision myself there, it doesn't seem like what I want. I'll admit that part of it is because I have SO much family there and I kinda want my own experience. Then I imagine myself up at Utah State and I cannot see it at all. I think it sounds like a blast and a half, but I want to go to college to be excited about going to classes and labs and working hard, not just having fun(although I do want to have fun of course!). Then I imagine myself at Stanford, but we all know that going to Stanford is more of a dream than anything:).

But when I think of the U, I get excited.

Admittedly, part of this excitement could be that the College of Engineering at the U came and did a hands on Engineering presentation today. I talked to one of the Engineering Ambassadors, Melanie, for a while about engineering at the U and her experience. It sounds awesome! She's going into Mechanical Engineering and is one of 3 girls in her graduating class. She said its amazing. I'm excited to go to HI-GEAR this summer so then I can really see what the campus and professors and everything is like.

Obviously, I'm not just going to research and see how I like it, I'll make it a matter of prayer as well, but for now, I'm really likin the U.

Thoughts on a Sunday

Here's a good song to listen to while reading this- If You Could Hie to Kolob arr. Marshall McDonald

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. And i think i'm growing, spiritually that is(hopefully taller too:)). My mind has been more focused on the eternal and gospel side of things. I guess it kinda started when it hit me that my big brother turns in his mission papers on March 10th. I'm pathetic, but right now I'm getting a little teary eyed. I'm not necessarily sad he's leaving because there's no place I'd rather have him be, its just that he's my big brother. Yes, I have two others besides him, but its johnny. I love that kid more than anything. Sometimes he's a mean big brother, but he's my big brother and I absolutely adore him. I wish he understood that. But anyways, thats one reason my mind has been on things not of a secular nature.

The second thing has to do partly with a boy named Tyler Talbot. I've grown up with Ty, our families used to always have sleepovers and play night games in the summer. Ty's my hometeacher and has been for quite some time. He just got his mission call to Mexico and the sunday after he got his call he came hometeaching. Ty taught a lesson on missionary work and I don't know why but I was powerfully hit with the notion that the Gospel changes lives. The true Gospel is what gets these 19 year old boys out on missions. It's what shapes my life. It points me in the right direction. Ty also told Johnny, Paige and I that we should take advantage of Seminary and take out a journal to write in every day we're in Seminary. So I've decided to do just that.

I love Seminary. I love my teacher. I love my class. Most importantly, I love the feeling I've been getting while I'm there and throughout the day. I've never felt this way in Seminary before, but while I'm there I don't want to leave. I think its due to an attitude change as well as a stronger desire to be the best I can be. I'd rather spend my whole day learning of Christ and His will for me than be at school. I know that sounds a bit extreme but its how I feel. The Gospel brings so much peace and happiness into my life. It doesn't take away my problems, but I endure them with so much more faith and patience.

Lately in Seminary we've been discussing D&C 76. On Friday, we talked about the Celestial Kingdom. I hope it goes without saying that thats where I want to be in the eternities. We talked about how there are 4 ways to get into the Celestial Kindom- 1)Die before the age of accountability(8); 2)Go through this earthly life with a mental handicap; 3) never have heard the fullness of the Gospel here on this earth and accept the Gospel in the Spirit World; and 4) Accept the Gospel on earth and live it with exactness. Of all 4 ways the most difficult of all is the fourth option. The road that I'm taking. Even though its not always easy, I feel so blessed to travel this road. I'm so lucky to be born in the Gospel, to have a living prohet on the earth, be able to know I have a Savior who loves me and is vying for my success. He is there for me. He is my best friend. He is the perfect example. I love him with everything I have.

When I was at EFY the summer of 2008, I was introduced to this song. It explains just how I feel about My Redeemer.

I Am- Nichole Nordeman

Pencil marks on a wall
I wasn't always this tall,
You scattered some monsters from beneath my bed,
You watched my team win,
You watched my team lose,
You watched when my bicycle went down again,

And When I was weak unable to speak,
still I could call You by name, and I said
Elbow healer, Superhero, come if You can,”
and You said “I am”

Only 16, life is so mean,
what kind of curfew is at ten PM
You saw my mistakes,
You watched my heart break
Heard when I swore I’d never love again

When I was weak, unable to speak,
still I could call You by name, and I said
Heart-ache Healer, Secret-keeper,
be my Best Friend” and You said “I am”

You saw me wear white, by pale candlelight,
I said forever to what lies ahead
two kids and a dream, with kids that can scream
too much it might seem when it’s two AM

When I am weak, unable to speak,
still I will call You by name.
“Oh Shepherd, Savior, Pasture-maker,
hold on to my hand,” and You say “I am.”

The winds of change,
And circumstance blow in and all around us

so we find a foothold that’s familiar,
And bless the moments that we feel You nearer

Life had begun, I was woven and spun,
You let the angels dance around the throne,
who can say when, But they’ll dance again,
when I am free and finally headed home

I will be weak, unable to speak,
still I will call You by name
Creator, Maker, Life-sustainer,
Comforter, Healer, My Redeemer,
Lord and King, Beginning and the End,
I am, yes, I am.”

Heat Surge

hahaha.. i know, i know, two posts in one day but i just saw the funniest infomercial for the HEAT SURGE! some sort of portable heat source.. but the best part is that its made by the amish! all they kept saying is that the amish handcraft this with extreme detail and care. then it shows the amish in their little barn workshop all working and there's a caption on the screen that says "Actual Amish Crafsman- Not Paid Actors" really its not that funny, but i was dying of laughter. it was the most ridiculous infomercial i've ever seen! nothing against the amish.. just the Heat Surge hahaha.
